The metro station at the Ballston-MU. Shortly after taking
this picture I was escorted out of the Metro station by an armed guard because
of possible terrorist activities. I was told that photographs could only be
taken in a metro station if a permit was obtained (to prevent terrorists from
planning an attack on the Metro). I called Amtrak to obtain a permit and they
told me that it wasn't due to terrorism concerns, but out of concern for my
safety. Apparently if you have a camera, you could fall over and possibly land
in the tracks to be squished by an oncoming train. They allow people to wait for
a train for up to 12 minutes without worrying about them falling over into the
tracks, but not if you have a camera and are taking pictures. I guess it has
something to do with Einstein's theory of fluctuating gravitational pull while
exposing a photo-sensitive surface to light particles.
