a brief explanation about this next series...
I was trying to take a picture of Toomkirk (also on top of Toompea heights). I had forgotten that i had set my camera to 800 iso
(super-fast film, resulting in grainy pictures) -- i was taking a picture of this church, when
this random guy walked by right as i snapped -- i was upset that this walker spoiled my picture
but since it's all digital, it's not like i'm wasting film, so didn't give it
another thought.
in reviewing and editing my pictures for the site, i saw the full size picture and remembered that i was still shooting at 800 iso -- I figured the picture was worthless -- who wants to see a grainy picture of a nice church spoiled by some random passer by. instead of deleting the picture i decided to look at the details (the full size picture is several computer screens big, so i usually peruse my pictures at 1/4 size so i can see the full image). Anyway, what i saw surprised me. i fell in love with the picture. the grainy aspect and the stride the walker is captured in juxtaposed with the church is so powerful. To me it really seems that time has stopped. without the grainy aspect or the exact stride - the picture would have indeed been worthless.
What follows is un-retouched, but differently cropped views of the same picture. Actually, for the last picture in the series i did double the size to make make the walker even more abstract. what follows is my best set of pictures from this weekend -- this is something i'm proud of. hope you enjoy.
p.s. this picture really reminds me of a painting i've seen or another
photograph....does it ring any bells with anyone else? i can't for the
life of me remember what it reminds me of.
