rio is not the place you want to be walking around with a very expensive camera all by yourself at 5am. by all accounts this is just not something you should do, but ignoring the real dangers i set out to capture O Cristo Redentor on Corcovado from across Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas. Corcovado was enshrined in clouds that morning so i had to settle for this picture across the lake looking towards Leblon

centro, from santa teresa

again doing something not totally safe i walked down from Santa Teresa towards centro. about every five minutes a taxi driver would stop and yell out "cuidado" (caution). Santa Teresa itself is fairly safe but it's right on the edge of a large favela (slum).

the sun's strong rays penetrate the clouds highlighting copacabana stretching out on the left and botafogo in the middle. the cable car approaching the summit is the only easy way up.
