the story behind this phrase... hmmmm, well,
suffice to say it's something you'd say when you think somebody's pulling your
leg, or joking with you, or full of b.s. spoken with the portugese accent
it sounds great. here is my collection of pictures of people (...those who
could say papo furado)

ever wonder why the brasilians have won more world cups than anyone else? it's because they play all the time. night and day. on basketball courts, on beaches, on abandoned parking lots....everywhere. they even have a form of volley ball played entirely without the hands.

i was 'lucky' to get this shot as the ball hit the net. it's hard to tell from this picture size, but you can also see the sand being kicked up by the kids foot as he launches to block the shot.

this model was being shot for a fashion magazine high on a hill overlooking rio. (see of the view of sugar loaf from here). I figured with such beautiful topic, i couldn't fail to take a good picture.

the Petrobras and Catedral Metropolitana buildings as seen
from the Santa Teresa tram. to get this one I had to lean out of the
trolley like the boy in front of me and duck inside every time we went past one
of the electrical wire posts to avoid getting knocked off the tram.

revelers whoop it up, hoping for cash handouts while waiting for the brasilian futbol team's parade to make it to copacabana. I arrived on site at 8pm, and gave up waiting for the parade at a bit past 1am. the parade never did make it as far as copa. (it was scheduled to reach copa by 9pm.)

...referring to the boat the guy's sitting in, not his physique.... of course. he's one of several fishers fishing in the lagoon near the Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Niterói.

walking up the ramp of the museum.
these soldiers had to get
approval from their commander before allowing me to take their photograph.

(garota is slang for girl in portugese)
