across the sands of time
giza
arriving at the pyramids before
they opened...huh? i take a horse around the perimeter to try and got shots of
the sunrise. this picture is similar to the taxi picture (exposing flash
and background separately) but with the added difficulty of taking a long
exposure on a very bouncy horse. without the long exposure the flash would
have forced the background into straight black. you can note the horse leg
blurred in motion whilst the remainder of the picture is fairly sharp -- have
you ever tried to change lenses and flash settings on the back of a horse?

after riding around the perimeter it was time to get closer in to the pyramids. what i came across next was unexpected and (strangely) the highlight of my morning.
DISCLAIMER: please don't look for sense, order or meaning in the pictures
that follow on the next link. to me, abstract randomness prevails overall and
beauty to me is as much a function of extreme hideousness or utter simplicity,
as is true attractiveness.
NOTE: if you are squeamish, skip this next link
which takes you to: the most beautiful thing in the world
-- these pictures are graphic in nature.

the usual
giza
the typical, the tourist shot. for me the
jury is still out on whether the mist covering the pyramid makes the picture
better or worse than if it were blue sky. khafre still capped with it's
original limestone casing. back in the day, the entire pyramid was encased
in this polished, white casing
